Outside the Three Stags Heads at Wardlow - an eccentric, traditional pub in the middle of nowhere, and well worth a visit.

October 2001

GEOGRAPH

The Miners Arms at Eyam is a busy, comfortable pub despite tales of death, haunting and suicide in the not-too-distant past.

Now it provides a very good centre for walking and for visiting the town of Eyam - most famous for shutting itself off from the rest of the world when the Plague visited the town. The houses and graves of the people of the time are still visible.

It bucketed with rain this weekend and Duncan's boots were soaked through - but the kind folk at the Three Stags' Heads dried boots and socks in their oven. Many thanks!

The Three Stags' Heads is one of those pubs you really must visit. Unchanged, I imagine, since the dawn of time, we emerged from the rain and storm and found a sanctuary. You must try Black Lurcher, and Absolution and ... just drink in the atmosphere. It's a privilege to be in a pub where time has stood still. It's the way it ought to be.
