From Stairhaven to Auchenmalg
For some odd reason I have only one photograph of this walk. Which is a pity because although there were no obvious photo opportunities the sun was out the whole time and the views over the water to the Mull of Galloway, and the Isle of Man were really good. It seems I'm not alone in losing good pics as the Wigtownshire Ramblers relate, but here they give a better photo story than I was able to do. The 5 mile round trip took 2 1/2 hours with a short steep start to the clifftop, excellent sea views but a difficult uneven stony and grassy path and a rather less interesting route back via an old tarmac road. For more details see the Walk Highlands site. I came back by the road then drove back again to Auchenmalg and The Cock, where I had a very good salad of smoked salmon and prawns. I needed it after 16 miles walking in three counties in the day. The Cock, copyright The Cock Inn at Auchenmalg (Andy Farrington) / CC BY-SA 2.0">Andy Farrington. |
