The World Heritage Site at New Lanark
...
... is in the old county of Lanarkshire and only a dozen miles from the M74 north of Glasgow. I followed Walking World walk id=4299 which starts from the New Lanark visitors centre, following the Clyde through woodland up to the Falls of Clyde and Bonnington Weir, via a vantage point from which can be seen a pair of nesting peregrine falcons. It is a short but interesting walk, very well signposted and makes for a good dayy when combined with a visit to the sandstone cotton mills (founded 1785) of the enlightened manager and social pioneer Robert Owen. |
