Destination Alnmouth ...
... from our temporary base at Castle View in Durham we set off by train (40 minutes) north to Alnmouth, a delightful village on the fine Northumberland coast and once a busy port. Today busier than usual due to an arts festival which guides visitors around the town.
We then followed a circuitous path back to the station for an afternoon train to Durham. This was far from the vigorous Cheviot style walk and more of an amble in a pleasant river-and-coast area. Nearby are Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh, Warkworth, The Farne Islands and Lindisfarne amongst other wonderful spots on the Northumbrian coast, but we'll leave that for another day. |
