      Locks Foxton
is famous for its long flight of locks and for its short-lived inclined
plane (a method of raising and lowering canal boats mechanically without
the use of locks). It's a busy place, in an attractive setting with a boat yard, lots of canal boats in use, two pubs (one recently refurbished and advertising Deuchars, London Pride and Theakstons), a café and a museum. See it on Google map. We parked, browsed around there for a while before setting off on an interesting and varied 10 mile walk along the canal, through fields and the occasional village (Gumley, Laughton) with a pause for lunch at the Staff of Life at Mowsley. There we ate well from their bar menu and drank Banks Bitter and Jennings Cumberland Bitter.
After a rest back at The Nevill Arms and a stroll around the village (village history here) we indulged in another excellent evening meal (though the restaurant gets rather noisy when full).
