The Cottage of Content
... at Carey, near Ross, lives up to its name. A busy place despite its relative isolation it's obviously popular with people from miles around. We enjoyed our stay. Our walk (generally similar to Walkingworld no 4767) took us about ten miles up and down a length of the beautiful Wye Valley from the Bridge at Mordiford, which is at the confluence of the Lugg and the Wye, and where the Moon Inn provides refreshment, through common land, fields, woods, nature reserves and up hill and down dale. Marvellous views and tracks and bridleways well signposted, thanks to the Herefordshire Nature Trust. Lunch was at The Crown at Woolhope - good food, refreshing cider, John considered this an excellent renovation opportunity - for someone else. This was a beautiful day, with unexpected spring sunshine following a bleak winter. Tim failed to back the winning horse in The National but remained chipper. He's not easily downhearted. An evening meal at The Lough Pool Inn with a wide variety on the menu before rturning to The Cottage of Content for a final pint and an early bed. |
