We walk then we relax. That's what we do ....

The Sandstone Trail

The photo above shows us at the trig point on Raw Head Hill, the highest point on the Sandstone ridge.

This was our walk in Cheshire, in the area of Buwardsley, which is several miles north of Ironbridge.

We trudged uphill without too much damage, some of us grateful for our walking poles, breaking off to a surprisingly select second hand bookshop for a Biggles book and popping in to an excellent pub on the way. The Sandstone Trail is a long distance footpath and we covered only a small part of it.

The Pheasant was a delight, with excellent service from attentive waitresses, a wide range of food including a superb fish board, and some god beers. It attracts a broad clientelle and walkers seem particularly attracted to it. And as its website says, it is peaceful and with panoramic views.

In the photographs below you can see the sandstone cliffs of our walk - and the views from the ridge. In years gone by people lived in caves in this ridge, making a living from forestry and extracting lime.
