Put Learning First
Information
Literacy is,
I believe, a vital subject for the modern curriculum.
The elements that make up the Information Literacy
Curriculum exist within the National Curriculum but are not greatly
emphasised.
Nevertheless we are overloaded with information!
I
would like to see every pupil taught a methodical
approach to handling information -
•
asking pertinent questions,
• searching for suitable information sources,
• selecting appropriate information,
• synthesising material from several sources,
• presenting it in the most effective way and
• evaluating what they've done.
Key
Information from my presentation to
the School Library Association weekend course "Knowledge
is Power" and my blurb describing my approach to training courses, are here as Word files.
Buy
a copy of Implementing
an Information Literacy Programme in Your School - loose leaf file
and CD-ROM -from SfE publications. Includes the 20 key information skills.
Best wishes in implementing the Information Literate School.
